Efteling Aquanura: A Spectacular Water Show

Overview of Efteling Aquanura

Efteling Aquanura is a grand fountain system located in the Efteling theme park in the Netherlands. The premiere took place on 31 May 2012, marking the park’s 60th anniversary. Developed by WET Design, Efteling, and Tebodin Consultants & Engineers, Aquanura is the largest fountain system in Europe and the third largest in the world, after The Dubai Fountain and the Fountains of Bellagio.

The Fountain System

The Aquanura fountain system features a total of 200 fountains, subdivided into 9 types, each with its own reach and effect. Four of these types are custom-designed and built for this project, along with the light effects. The system includes 800 lamps placed in the pond and 29 light- and audio posts around the pond, with moving heads on top to support the water show. The super shooters can reach a height of 45 meters. The project was constructed by various companies, including Water Entertainment Technologies (WET), Tebodin Netherlands B.V., and others, at a total cost of €17,000,000.

The Show Experience

Aquanura is a spectacular show of water, light, and fire, accompanied by Efteling melodies. The show features four frogs that turn the pond into a giant water ballet, bringing Efteling fairy tales to life. With more than 200 fountains and 900 lights, the show transports visitors to another level during this 12-minute Efteling Medley. The music is a medley of compositions from various Efteling themes, performed by The Brabant Orchestra.

Music and Segments

The show includes various musical segments, such as The Magic Clock – By the Sleepy Lagoon, Villa Volta, The Indian Water Lilies, Carnaval Festival, and Raveleijn. Each segment is accompanied by thematic lighting and water effects. For example, the Raveleijn segment includes lots of fire and connects well with the dramatic music from the Raveleijn attraction. The show also features segments from other popular attractions like Droomvlucht and Spookslot.

Sustainability Updates

Aquanura has been updated to reduce its carbon footprint. The revamped show debuts this winter with a new musical score and new-look frogs. All the lighting is being replaced by LED lighting, and the fire effects, which used propane, are being removed. Instead, four eight-meter-high beacons of light will be used around the pond to enhance the show. These changes align with Efteling’s goal to be climate neutral by 2030 and climate positive by 2032.

Location and Accessibility

Aquanura is located in the Rowing Pond, next to Fata Morgana in the themed area Differ Realm. The show is accessible by wheelchair and can be enjoyed by the whole family. Visitors can check the exact showtimes using the Efteling app.
